Please Note:
Due to pre existing Quarantine laws we cannot send any bulbs to Western Australia and Tasmania. You may need to find bulb suppliers in your areas. Sorry we cant help you.

This is the original old fashioned varities that have the best fragrance. Commonly seen in old gardens where they are naturalised across the lawn. Sometimes you will see them growing wild on the sides of the road. They are easy to grow and well suited to Australian conditions.

The blooms last a long time in a vase indoors so be sure to pick them when in flower.

Very easy to grow and will give you many years of beautiful flowers.

Growing Conditions - Detailed

Family: Iridaceae
Planting time: Late Summer to Autumn
Height: 15cm tall
Depth: 3-5cm deep.
Spacing6cm apart
Aspect: Full sun.
Soil
As with all bulbs avoid boggy soil. Well drained is best
Watering
Start watering when you see it sprouting above the ground. Keep the soil moist right until the foliage has finished and shrivelled down to ground level.

Fertilising
Bulbs dont need food when they dormant (ie no shoots above ground as they are sleeping then) The important time to fertilise is when they start to sprout above ground. The best results can be attained from using a complete liquid fertiliser and water them with it every 2 weeks until they have finished flowering and died back down.
Flowering time
Mid Spring.
After flowering care
Leave them in the ground and they will gradually multiply. After about 3-5 years you could dig them up and separate the bulbs and plant half of them somewhere else.

Frost care
Freesias are a bit sensitive to cold frosts so you may need to offer them some protection. Gardeners have used straw as a layer to insulate the bulbs, or if they are in pots, shift them to a more protected spot.
Climatic tolerances
Subtropical to cool.
